Three officials attached to Ishongororo Town council in Ibanda North who were ordered to step aside from their offices over corruption and misuse of office have turned down the interdiction order for not following the right procedure. Two weeks back officials from Anti-corruption Unit in alliance with Inspector General of Governments office (IGG) arrested three officials,  Mpeke Ali Mayor Ishongororo Town council, Nuwamanya Robert former Town clerk Ishongororo Town council but currently Deputy Town clerk Ibanda Municipality and one Ezira the Treasure Ishongororo Town council, they were taken to kampala but later released one week.
The three are accused of misusing over 500M= they got after selling 300 Government Plots of Land located in Kiburara Ward Ishongororo Town council. It is well remembered that on, Jan 11, 2016, while at Bugarama Trading center President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni asked the leadership of Ibanda District to give out those plots of land to people on lease but the order was implemented mid last year 2018 and each to get plot of land was required to money between 2M to 3M=.
Early this week the office of IGG Wrote interdicted the three officials from their offices and gave powers of mayor ship of Ishongororo to the council speaker Nuwagaba Mutaka Ezra.
However speaking to our reporter Nuwagaba Mutaka Ezra who was ordered
to take over the office said that he is not ready to take over office as IGGs order says because the matter is being handled by Anti-corruption Unite not IGG. Ali Mpeke says that the office of IGG didn’t follow the right procedure to interdict the town council officials.
Mutaka Ezra added that according to Local Government Act CAP 43 Sec 14 Sub Sec 2-6 council is the one supposed to interdict mayor and other officials not IGG.
He therefore adds that the so interdicted officials Mpeke Ali, Nuwamanya Robert and one Ezra they are still in their offices because he is not ready to implement the orders of IGG.
